In the wake of the last week’s murders of five Dallas police officers, presumptive Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump declared himself Monday to be “the law and order candidate.”

During an address in Virginia Beach, Virginia, Trump said, “We must maintain law and order at the highest level, or we will cease to have a country, 100 percent, we will cease to have a country. I am the law and order candidate. Hillary Clinton, on the other hand, is weak, ineffective, pandering, and as proven by her recent e-mail scandal, which was an embarrassment, not only to her, but to the entire nation as a whole. She’s either a liar or grossly incompetent. One or the other. Very simple.”

“Personally, it’s probably both,” he added.

“The attack on our Dallas police is an attack on our country,” Trump said. “Our whole nation is in mourning, and we will be for a very long time.”

“America’s police and law enforcement personnel are what separates civilization from total chaos and the destruction of our country as we know it,” Trump explained, as he urged an end to “hostility against our police, and against all members of law enforcement.”

Trump noted “the tragic deaths in Louisiana and Minnesota make clear the work that must be done to ensure every American feels that their safety is protected.”

The real-estate magnate also spoke about veterans issues, saying he’ll appoint someone to the clean up the Veterans Administration.

“This will be a person of great competence. This will not be a political hack,” he said.

The candidate also said he’d create “a private White House hotline” to ensure “that no valid complaint about the VA wrongdoing falls through the cracks.”

Trump even said if a complaint is not addressed properly, he will instruct his staff to bring it to him personally.

“I will pick up the phone and fix it myself, if need be,” Trump said. “That’s a promise.”
